Cargo resupply

A cargo resupply mission carries food, equipment, experiments and spare parts to a space station on a spacecraft with no crew. For the International Space Station, NASA buys these flights from commercial companies. SpaceX flies Cargo Dragon under the Commercial Resupply Services-2 contract, and Northrop Grumman flies its Cygnus spacecraft. Cargo Dragon is the only reusable orbital cargo spacecraft in operation, according to Wikipedia. Examples on this site are SpaceX CRS-35 and Northrop Grumman CRS-24. Leonardo, a former Space Shuttle cargo module, became a permanent station module in 2011.

    SpaceX CRS-35

CRS-35 was a routine run with one notable load. Dragon carried the last pair of ISS Roll Out Solar Arrays, the panels that have been added to the station's power system one pair at a time, and the Falcon 9 booster came back to land at Landing Zone 40.

    Progress 96

Progress usually reaches the station in two days. This one took three, because of the orbital mechanics for that launch date, which NASA's commentators called uncommon but not unprecedented.
