Gerald Carr was an American engineer, United States Marine Corps officer and NASA astronaut, born on 22 August 1932 and died on 26 August 2020. He commanded Skylab 4, the third and final crewed visit to the Skylab workshop, from 16 November 1973 to 8 February 1974. Carr and his crew spent 84 days in space, a new world record at that time. NASA selected him in 1966. He worked as CAPCOM for Apollo 8 and Apollo 12 and was in line to walk on the Moon as lunar module pilot of Apollo 19 before that mission was cancelled in 1970.
