Jessica Meir is an American and Swedish marine biologist, physiologist and NASA astronaut. Before NASA selected her in 2013, she studied the diving physiology of emperor penguins in Antarctica and how bar-headed geese fly over the Himalayas. She launched on Soyuz MS-15 on 25 September 2019 and served on Expedition 61 and Expedition 62. On 18 October 2019, she and Christina Koch took part in the first all-female spacewalk. She returned to the station on Crew-12 in 2026, took command during Expedition 74 in July 2026, and made her fifth spacewalk, a repair of the Canadarm2 robotic arm.
