Starship Flight 14

Starship Flight 14 lifted off from Starbase in South Texas on 28 September 2026 with Booster 21 and Ship 41, and the ship reached orbit for the first time. It deployed 26 Starlink V3 satellites, all of which made contact, and then came back to a splashdown in the Pacific Ocean.

What happened

  1. Liftoff

    33 engines on Booster 21

The booster lit all 33 Raptor engines, passed Max Q and went to hot staging, in which the ship's engines light while it is still attached to the booster.

  2. Minutes after liftoff

    The booster returns

After the boostback burn, Super Heavy made a landing burn as in a catch and splashed down softly in the Gulf off Starbase. One video says the booster lost engines on the way up.

  3. Ship ascent

    An engine shuts down early

A vacuum Raptor on the ship shut down early. The team first called no-go for the orbital burn.

  4. Then

    Go for orbit

After a poll, SpaceX gave a go for orbit and declared the ship in orbit.

  5. In orbit

    26 Starlink V3 satellites deployed

The first satellite deployed, and in the end all 26 deployed. Video 288 reports that all 26 made contact.

  6. After deployment

    Deorbit and splashdown

The ship made a deorbit burn and a landing burn and splashed down in the northern Pacific.

What was planned and what flew

The plan for Flight 14 was six orbits over about ten hours. The ship deorbited earlier than that. Video 289 puts the flight in the context of the test campaign from Starhopper to the Flight 5 booster catch, and lists what is still unproven for Artemis and Mars.

Where the videos differ

Video 216 says the ship exploded at splashdown. Videos 221 and 288 describe a splashdown in the Pacific without that detail. Check SpaceX's flight page for the official account.

What the next flight changed

Video 288 describes the plan for Flight 15, a catch of both the booster and the ship, which depends on an FAA licence. That plan is SpaceX's, as the video reports it, not a completed result.

Questions and answers

  1. When was Starship Flight 14?

On 28 September 2026, from Starbase in South Texas.

  2. Did Starship reach orbit?

Yes, for the first time. SpaceX gave a go for orbit after one of the ship's vacuum engines shut down early.

  3. How many satellites did it deploy?

    26 Starlink V3 satellites.

  4. What happened to the booster?

Booster 21 made a landing burn and splashed down softly in the Gulf, without a catch.
