Saturn V

Saturn V is the rocket that sent Apollo crews to the Moon. NASA built it at the Marshall Space Flight Center in Huntsville, Alabama, with a design team that included Wernher von Braun. It had three liquid-fuelled stages. Thirteen flew between 1967 and 1973, all from Kennedy Space Center Launch Complex 39. Nine of them carried 24 astronauts toward the Moon, from Apollo 8 to Apollo 17, and the last launched the Skylab station. It still holds the record for payload to low Earth orbit, 140,000 kilograms. It was the first vehicle to take humans beyond that orbit, and the Space Launch System is the only other.

International Space Station
The station is still in operation. Modules were built in Russia, the US and Europe, and the project grew out of a post-Cold War partnership. It is now due to be deorbited, with SpaceX named as the vehicle operator around 2030 in one video.

Apollo 13
Apollo 13 was meant to be the third landing on the Moon, in the Fra Mauro highlands. After the rupture it became a rescue, worked out in real time by the crew and the flight controllers in Houston. The crew never landed, and every one of them came home.

Apollo 11
Apollo 11 was NASA's first attempt to land people on the Moon, and it worked. The Saturn V that launched it, the lunar module that landed and the command module that came home were the full stack of the Apollo programme, flown by a crew of three.

Skylab
Skylab was a Saturn V third stage turned into a house. Sixty-three seconds after liftoff the thin shield that was meant to protect it from meteoroids and sunlight tore away, taking one of its two solar arrays with it.
